GES Removes KNUST SHS Assistant Headmaster for Allegedly Fondling Student

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has removed the Assistant Headmaster of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Senior High School (KNUST SHS) after allegations surfaced that he fondled a female student on campus.

According to reports, the incident occurred during evening prep hours when the assistant headmaster allegedly invited the student to his office under the pretense of offering academic guidance. The student later confided in her colleagues and guardians, who reported the matter to school authorities.

GES officials, upon receiving the complaint, immediately initiated an investigation into the matter. In a press statement issued on Monday, the Service stated that the decision to remove the assistant headmaster was taken “to protect the integrity of the investigation and to ensure a safe environment for all students.”

The Ashanti Regional Director of Education noted that the alleged misconduct was “a serious breach of professional ethics and child protection standards” and assured parents and guardians that the Service remains committed to safeguarding learners in all institutions.

Meanwhile, the affected student is said to be receiving counseling and support. Parents and stakeholders have also called for stricter measures to curb instances of sexual harassment in schools.

The GES added that the assistant headmaster will face a disciplinary hearing after ongoing investigations, and if found guilty, further sanctions—including dismissal and possible criminal charges—would follow.

This development has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many demanding stronger accountability systems within the country’s educational institutions.
