Angry Trump Accidentally Blurts Out Unnerving New Plot to Rig Midterms

In a lengthy and unhinged Truth Social tirade on Monday, President Donald Trump raged at Democrats for allegedly cheating in elections. Buried deep within his tirade is a clear indication of how he intends to corrupt the 2026 midterm elections at a time when polls are showing his agenda in decline. In his screed, Trump rehashed his familiar lies about how mail balloting is riddled with fraud, and promised to lead a new “movement” to abolish it.

 But then he added this:

In March, Trump unveiled a similar executive order to alter election regulations. It would have required state officials to require documented proof of citizenship for everyone who registers to vote in federal elections and prevented states from accepting ballots that are mailed on time but arrive after Election Day. Numerous voters would have lost their right to vote as a result of such changes. After a coalition of states sued, the plaintiffs successfully argued that it usurped their authority to set election rules, and two federal judges blocked it this spring. The leadership is appealing. Trump seems ready to try again with such an executive order. However, the most important aspect of Monday's post is that he unintentionally revealed the scheme's true purpose by linking this scheme to the midterm elections. In his latest rant, Trump declares that he will "lead a movement to get rid of" mail balloting. Later, he adds that this "movement" will begin with his new executive order, providing strong evidence that he will attempt to prohibit vote-by-mail through executive order. For a long time, supporters of voting rights have anticipated that he would attempt something similar, perhaps arguing that sending votes by mail poses a threat to national security. This is because judges affirmed that the Constitution empowers states to determine the "time, place, and manner" of elections, which resulted in Trump's previous executive order's legal argument failing.

Trump may now attempt something novel. Pooja Chaudhuri, a lawyer at Democracy Defenders Fund who represented other clients challenging the March executive order, stated, "It sounds like he will try to ban all mail-in balloting through executive order, and he’s going to have to find some other rationale for such a sweeping presidential action." For instance, Chaudhuri went on to say that Trump might assert that "the president must get involved" and that "mail-in ballots are so fraudulent that they undermine the institutions of this country." This would be a significant misuse of power. There is overwhelming evidence that any fraud in mail balloting is limited to nonexistent.  Indeed, the pretext is the thing to watch now more than ever. Trump is fabricating a false justification for eliminating vote-by-mail because he believes that doing so will aid Republicans in the midterm elections (probably incorrectly, but that doesn't matter). That he openly linked his announcement to the 2026 elections shows he isn’t even bothering to hide the scam any longer.
Greta Bedekovics, associate director of democracy at the Center for American Progress, stated, "It hurts them to point out that this is directly related to the 2026 elections if they are going to try to stand for election integrity." "It reveals that this is about election rigging rather than election integrity and national security." It’s no accident that this comes even as Trump is expanding the use of the National Guard in Washington, D.C., and other cities, based—again—on a manufactured pretext, this time about crime.  In the end, Trump's rant shows clearly that he intends to use his power as president in every way possible to swing the midterm elections against Democrats. This could include intensified military operations in Democratic strongholds or swing areas, either to woo voters or to create a crisis to aid Republicans, as well as any voting restrictions he can impose, all justified by fabricated pretexts. We all need to be ready for this.  Fortunately, Trump has explicitly stated his intentions to us.
